On May 16, Weathernews released its 2023 “View of the Beginning and End of the Rainy Season.
The rainy season is expected to begin in early June in southern Kyushu and end in mid-June in other areas, four days to one week later than normal nationwide. The end of the rainy season, on the other hand, is expected to be on par with normal, indicating that this year’s rainy season will be short.
Peak rainfall is expected in Okinawa/Amami from the end of May to mid-June, from Kyushu to Kanto Koshin from late June to early July, and from late June to mid-July in Hokuriku and Tohoku. Although total rainfall is expected to be normal nationwide, heavy rainfall is likely in all areas, and caution is advised against rising rivers, flooding of houses, and landslide disasters.
