This time, “voco Osaka Central”, its first entry into Japan, opened on the site of the former Kyomachi Building. The name “VOCO” means “to invite” or “to call together” in Latin. The brand aims to provide an experience based on three concepts: “Come on in with a warm welcome,” “Me time,” and “voco life,” a dish that is appropriate for the occasion.
Artwork decorating the building and space using old wood Kyomachibori, Osaka, was once a town where people moved from Fushimi, Kyoto, and developed. voco Osaka Central was built on the site of the old Kyomachi Building, a historical building that has been a symbol of Kyomachibori since its construction in 1926. Despite its modern and stylish exterior, once you step into the building, you will find a warm and inviting space made of old wood. In the atrium space that houses the lobby, restaurant, and bar, a wooden structure made of reclaimed and utilized old timbers recovered from actual houses sits. Original artwork themed on the history of the city was also displayed in the building. Memory of the City with Floating Cotton Clouds” decorates the walls of the open-air atrium restaurant, and a collage of photographs of the Osaka cityscape depicts the exterior of the former Kyomachi Building. The “drawing p-p-f/f-f-k” wall art in the bar area is designed with a motif of flowing water. Other artworks include objects made from reused steel doors of the former Kyomachi Building, artwork made from reused valves of the former Kyomachi Building, and ceiling motifs made from reused reliefs of the former Kyomachi Building. The elevator ceiling is designed to look as if the surface of the water is shimmering, as Kyoto is the water capital connecting Kyoto and Osaka.
