JR East will introduce new operation regulations utilizing radar rainfall (radar rainfall regulations) on June 18 for all conventional lines, in addition to conventional operation regulations such as train suspension and slow operation during rainfall.
Until now, rainfall values were monitored by rain gauges installed at stations, etc., and operating restrictions were issued when the values exceeded the standard values.
Radar rainfall regulation utilizes 1 km mesh areal rainfall distributed by the Japan Meteorological Agency and the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism. Rainfall in areas where rain gauges are not installed can also be monitored. If the rainfall exceeds the standard value, driving restrictions are issued for the section that includes the mesh.
In addition, the existing operation control system has been modified to ensure proper operation. The system will integrate the existing operation regulation information and radar rainfall regulation information and communicate it to trains to enable prompt implementation of operation regulations.
