On April 19, five JICA experts who have worked on JICA projects in various countries met Their Imperial Highnesses Prince and Princess Akishino at Akasaka Imperial Villa to report on their activities.
Since 2004, Their Imperial Highnesses Prince and Princess Akishino has been receiving visits, but due to the Corona disaster, the last visit was postponed until March 2019. This time, after a four-year absence, the event was resumed, and five guests from Asia, the Middle East, and Africa were honored with a visit.

Sustainable and Effective Maternal and Child Care through Dissemination of the MCH Handbook in Ghana

Omachi Specialist introduced and nationally deployed a new integrated MCH handbook (integrated for expectant mothers and infants) and further worked to create a system for its sustainable use. They also contributed to capacity building of health workers and others and development of educational materials in order to realize quality mother-child care utilizing the MCH handbook.

Helping to strengthen the foundation of Egypt-Japan University of Science and Technology (E-JUST) for higher quality education.
Expert Ozawa (Padeco Co., Ltd.) provided support for the introduction of a personnel evaluation system at E-JUST. He also worked to strengthen the foundation of the organization by leading the first-ever alumni tracking survey to obtain feedback from alumni and information on the transition of career paths after graduation, in order to obtain suggestions for further development of E-JUST in the future, after 10 years of its opening.

Challenges for a Police Organization Trusted by Citizens
In Indonesia, Specialist Suzuki contributed to the promotion of civil police activities, provided policy advice for the modernization of the police organization, and strengthened the organization through seminars and other activities. In the Corona Disaster, although he had to temporarily return to his home country, he made use of online resources and conducted a seminar at the National Police Academy to develop human resources.

Doubling Rice Production in Sub-Saharan Africa
Expert HANEISHI helped the CARD Secretariat develop a national rice promotion strategy paper and facilitate implementation of projects in line with the strategy, while coordinating with a wide variety of stakeholders, including 32 member countries and donor countries, to strengthen the groundwork for getting CARD activities off the ground. The experts also helped promote the implementation of projects in line with the strategies in each country. In addition, CARD visualized the projects on the CARD website by posting the status of achievement of indicators and donor activities in each country on a map.

After the visit
The returning expert said, “I was nervous at first, but Their Imperial Highnesses always smiled kindly at me and created a very soft atmosphere, which eased my nerves. The visit was conducted in a friendly atmosphere from start to finish. In addition to the details of their activities, they also talked about the difficulties they faced and episodes of their ingenuity in the Corona disaster.
Their Imperial Highnesses also asked questions about the current situation in each country and important points of the project, such as the prospect of computerization of the maternal and child health handbook in Ghana and the possibility of mechanization of rice cultivation in Africa. The experts also explained the current situation in their respective countries and the key points of their projects. For each of the returning experts, this was an unforgettable opportunity of a lifetime to realize the value of working in international cooperation.
