JR Kyushu has announced that it will expand the number of stations covered by the touch-settlement experiment, which is currently being conducted at five stations between Hakata and Kashii on the Kagoshima Main Line, to 50 stations starting July 12.
In this experiment, visitors will be able to use ticket gates and trains by holding a card with touch-sensitive payment functions or a smartphone with the card installed over a special device installed at an automatic ticket gate. Through this experiment, the convenience of daily users and visitors to the city, including foreigners visiting Japan, will be improved and the effectiveness of the service will be verified.
Since July 12, all stations between Mojiko and Kurume on the Kagoshima Main Line (49 stations) and Uminonakamichi Station on the Kashii Line (1 station) have been covered. Visa, JCB, and Amex brands can be used, and the experiment will continue until March 31, 2024.
