On April 1, the wearing of bicycle helmets became mandatory due to the enforcement of the revised Road Traffic Law. Among the various new products attracting attention, the general trading company Your Shop launched the FOXWEAR V6, Japan’s first bicycle helmet with a driverless camera.
A bicycle helmet to protect your life and a drive recorder to equip you if you ride on public roads. The two are combined and sold for 18,000 yen (excluding tax).
We borrowed an actual device and tested its functions on a cycling trip, so let us bring you a review right away.
Upon opening the box, the helmet itself is placed in a special storage bag.
Many cyclists feel uneasy about leaving their special helmets behind when they park their bicycles in town, but it will be easier to carry them if they are in a storage bag. If the helmet is placed in the bag, there is no need to worry about it getting scratched or contaminating other luggage.
It is available in two colors: matte black and white. We used matte black this time.
The head circumference of the FOXWEAR V6 ranges from 54 to 63 cm, and can be adjusted simply by turning the dial on the rear head adjuster. Although I am not so confident about my head circumference that I have considered using a helmet for kids, I was able to secure it reasonably well by adjusting the straps as well.
It was a sunny day for cycling during the rainy season, so I decided to ride to a park a short distance away.
Even though the sun is shining, the air itself is full of moisture at this time of year, and some helmets can become stuffy inside. However, FOXWEAR V6 has a proprietary airflow structure with large vents that allow air to flow smoothly.
Weighing only about 365g, it is light enough considering that it is equipped with a driverless camera, which may be a concern at first if you are used to lightweight models weighing less than 200g, but in fact it did not affect driving even after wearing it for a long time.
It is also equipped with a front light for night driving, which brightens visibility and makes it easier to be noticed by oncoming traffic.
In addition, the rear of the vehicle is equipped with a warning taillight for following vehicles. With one-click control of three levels (fast flash mode, slow flash mode, and normal mode), the lights should be turned on quickly when it gets dark to prevent accidents.
