Fujikyu Highland held a preview of the new coaster “ZOKKON” prior to its opening.
ZOKKON” is the first new coaster in 12 years, with a total construction cost of approximately 4.5 billion yen. We were able to take an early test ride, and here is what we saw.
Climb into the bike-shaped ride equipped with LED lights, grab the handlebars, and feel the exhilarating wind with your whole body as you race left and right. The ride is full of gimmicks that make you feel as if you are driving at full speed yourself, such as four accelerations based on the linear launch system, a series of turns, riding in a tunnel, and driving in reverse. Unlike conventional roller coasters, this ride uses a smooth system similar to that used in linear motor cars, so it feels as if you are riding a motorcycle.
An audio system is installed near the foot of the car, allowing visitors to enjoy the coaster’s unique sense of speed and exhilaration while listening to music. After pausing indoors at the end of the course and enjoying the visual effects linked to the music, the coaster accelerates further. From here, a more vigorous floating sensation awaits.
The music played during the ride was an original song written and produced by “SEKAI NO OWARI. The rhythmical tone of the music made the passengers feel as if they were running through a circuit with their whole body.
Although I am not a fan of the floating sensation that roller coasters provide, I enjoy cycling, and I genuinely enjoyed riding “ZOKKON” as I leaned forward and rode the momentum of the coaster. The person in charge of planning “ZOKKON” also said, “This coaster should be ridden by roller coaster beginners. If you are torn between fear and interest, I recommend riding “ZOKKON” first. The linear acceleration gives you a sense of speed, and you can experience the sensation of riding hard on a circuit, making it a great attraction for motorcycle enthusiasts as well.
