On July 13, HIS (HIS) installed a vending machine developed by Yo-Kai Express at the “Weird Cafe” in Shibuya, Tokyo.
Weird Cafe opened in February 2018 as an unmanned cafe where robots serve drip coffee. Since then, the company has been using robots to operate the store, including supporting an iced menu and starting to serve light meals.
Yo-Kai Express, on the other hand, is a Silicon Valley food-tech venture company that has developed vending machines at various locations that automatically cook and serve ramen in as little as 90 seconds. In Japan, Yo-Kai Express has installed these machines in 20 locations, including Ueno Station, Haneda Airport, Aso Kumamoto Airport, and parking areas on the Tokyo Metropolitan Expressway.
The Yo-Kai Express vending machine at the Weird Cafe will offer seven menu items, including five new items such as the restaurant’s exclusive “Vietnamese Chicken Pho” (790 yen).
