The Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) signed a Loan Agreement (L/A) with the Government of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam on July 4 in Hanoi for three projects totaling up to 60,983 million yen. The Loan Agreement covers the following three projects (1) Binh Duong Province Public Transport Infrastructure Improvement Project (Loan amount: 6,244 million yen)
(2) Lam Dong Province Agricultural Development Infrastructure Improvement Project (Phase 1) (Loan amount: 4,739 million yen)
(3) Loan to support response to new strains of coronavirus infection (Loan amount: 50 billion yen) Signing ceremony
Details of each business are as follows
(1) Binh Duong Province Public Transportation Infrastructure Improvement Project

(a) Purpose and outline of business
Binh Duong Province, which is adjacent to Ho Chi Minh City, plays an important role in Vietnam’s industry and is promoting investment by foreign companies, including Japanese companies.
This project aims to contribute to the economic development of Ho Chi Minh City metropolitan area by building a flyover, a public transportation priority system (PTPS), and a median strip on the main road (Mie Phuc-Tan Bang Road) connecting Binh Duong New City and Suoi Thien Terminal Station to meet the increasing traffic demand in the province and to improve the connectivity with Ho Chi Minh City, thereby contributing to the economic development of Ho Chi Minh City. The project will contribute to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) Goal 3 (health and well-being for all) and Goal 9 (build a foundation for industrial and technological innovation).

(a) Purpose and outline of business
Lam Dong Province, the largest producer of vegetables and flowers in Vietnam, has been selected as a model region for adding value and improving international competitiveness, including the establishment of a food value chain, and the plan is to model success in the province and expand throughout the country.
This project aims to support the development of basic agricultural infrastructure such as roads and irrigation facilities as well as a flower collection center in Lam Dong Province, a model region for Japan-Vietnam agricultural cooperation, thereby contributing to the advancement and value addition of agricultural production systems and the establishment of a stable supply system. (End poverty), 10 (End inequality among people and countries), and 13 (Take concrete measures against climate change) of the SDGs (Sustainable Development Goals).

This project will address the financial needs of the Vietnamese government’s corona control package to minimize the social and economic impact of the spread of the new coronavirus in Vietnam. Through financial support, the project will promote Vietnam’s economic and social stability and development efforts, and contribute to Goal 3 (health and well-being for all) and Goal 8 (both job satisfaction and economic growth) of the SDGs (Sustainable Development Goals).
