The Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) signed a Record of Discussions (R/D) with the Government of the Republic of the Philippines on August 3 in Manila for the technical cooperation project “Master Plan Development Project for the Metro Manila Railroad Development.
In the Philippines, a transportation roadmap for Mega Manila (8,099 km2), which consists of the capital city and four surrounding provinces, was established in 2014 with the cooperation of JICA, and the Metro Manila Metro, North-South Commuter Line, etc. have been constructed through yen loans. However, as population and transportation demand is expected to increase over a wider area in the future, a rail master plan for the Greater Metro Manila area (39,508 km2), including more surrounding provinces, is required.
