Yokosuka Naval Base is open to the public several times a year. This photo was taken on a previous visit to the base on an open day in August.
The Aegis of the Seventh Fleet, based in Yokosuka, was the one we were able to visit that day. Once on board, you can take commemorative photos with the captain and sailors, and cheerful marines will teach you about various weapons and machinery. Outside, there is a barbecue and a big band performance to entertain you for the whole day.
The base is open to the public for the “Japan-U.S. Goodwill Yokosuka Spring Festa” in late March, “Yokosuka Friendship Day” in mid-October, which is held in conjunction with the Yokosuka Fireworks Festival, “Yokosuka Mikoshi Parade” in late October, and the “Japan-U.S. Goodwill Base History Tour” four times a year. and other events are held four times a year.
Dates are subject to change due to social conditions. Advance registration and identification may be required, so it is advisable to refer to the description on the website. In most cases, entry is available at the “Mikasa Park Gate,” but there are a number of other gates as well, so be sure to check.
