On August 8, JR Tokai announced that it will discontinue the in-train wagon sales service on the Tokaido Shinkansen’s Nozomi and Hikari trains as of October 31. This is in response to changes in circumstances, including an increase in the number of customers bringing their own luggage and a shortage of labor.
Although sales will cease in regular cars, passengers in green cars will be able to purchase meals and beverages by mobile order using QR codes installed in their seats, and pursers will deliver them to the seats.
On the other hand, drip coffee and ice cream, which have been in high demand, will be handled by increasing the number of vending machines on station platforms.
