The forum featured panel discussions and presentations by Japanese and Mongolian companies and organizations on such themes as export promotion, trade and investment promotion, SDGs business, ICT and digital industry promotion, and innovation between the two countries.

Opening remarks were made by Hiroyuki Kobayashi, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Mongolia to Japan, Davaasuren, Minister of Construction and Urban Planning of Mongolia, and Tuvendorj, Deputy Minister of Economy and Development of Mongolia.

After the opening remarks, the R/D (Record of Discussions), an agreement with the Mongolian government on the technical cooperation project “New Zonemod City and Free Economic Zone Development Promotion Project” was signed (click here for the detailed page).

In the organizer’s speech, Mr. Shinichi Tanaka, Director of JICA Mongolia Office, gave a presentation titled “Rapidly Changing Mongolia and JICA’s Efforts” on 1) Pillars of Cooperation and Representative Projects in Mongolia, 2) Private Sector and ICT Industry Promotion, 3) Support for Accepting Foreign Human Resources and Gender Equality Promotion, 4) “Business Support for SMEs and SDGs Business Support for Small and Medium Enterprises and SDGs”, etc.

In the latter half of the forum, participants from 10 collaborative projects that were formed and selected at the kick-off event of “Mongolia Open Innovation and Co-Creation for SDGs (MICS) 2023[1],” which was held in Ulaanbaatar on the 17th, hosted by JICA. The project members made pitches in front of business representatives from Japan and Mongolia.

[1] This is a program to support a wide range of stakeholders in industry, government, and academia in Japan and Mongolia to bring together technologies, ideas, and funds to co-create innovative solutions and work together to resolve social issues and achieve the SDGs in Mongolia.
