In commemoration of the opening of the course for which credit has been granted at the National University of Mongolia since September of this year, a special lecture entitled “Trends Related to Politics and Foreign Policy in East Asia and China” by Professor Akio Takahara of the University of Tokyo Graduate Schools for Law and Politics (former Director of Sadako Ogata Peace and Development Institute) was held on the evening of October 5, 2012. Prior to the lecture, a Memorandum of Cooperation (MOC) for the introduction of JICA Chair Credit Course was signed between the National University of Mongolia and JICA Mongolia Office.
A total of 176 university students, faculty members, and Asian studies researchers attended the lecture, including the President of Badalchi National University, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Kobayashi, and JICA Mongolia Office Director Tanaka.
In his presentation, he explained the history of bilateral relations between China and Japan, the international context in which China quickly overcame the global financial crisis of 2008, achieved economic growth, and emerged as a major world power, and the current situation in which more and more Chinese people believe that the Chinese model can be a model for global development.
Participants expressed their opinions on China’s One Belt, One Road policy, relations with Taiwan, Japan’s national defense policy, and other issues, and engaged in lively discussions on how to bridge the information gap between China and other countries, how Japan-U.S. relations affect China, and other issues.
