Delicious French cuisine in the gastronomic city of Nouméa New Caledonia’s charm lies in the fact that it is a French territory! We had lunch at the popular restaurant “La Marmite”. This restaurant is known for its creative and beautifully presented dishes. For example, the appetizer “Yellowfin Tuna Tataki” was served with white chocolate wasabi flavor, which I thought was cheese! It is an unthinkable combination in the Japanese sense of the word, but strangely enough, I was able to enjoy it. The main dish, duck meat, was tender and delicious with ginger, carrot, and orange puree! However, each dish was very generous, so by the time dessert arrived, I was full. Especially since there are so many desserts at all the restaurants, it may be just right for two people to share. As for the price, a two-course meal of “appetizer + main dish” or “main dish + dessert” costs 4,400 CFP (about 5,720 yen, converted to 1.3 CFP at about 1 yen = 1.3 CFP). A three-course meal of “appetizer + main course + dessert” is priced at 5800 CFP (about 7540 yen), which is quite reasonable. Eating out in New Caledonia is a bit more expensive than in Japan. However, since you are on a trip, you may want to enjoy a memorable meal at a local restaurant once or twice. If you do, be sure to make reservations!
