The Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) signed a Grant Agreement (G/A) with the Government of the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) on November 2 in Kinshasa for a grant of up to 2.71 billion yen for the “Electricity Access Improvement Project in the Mon Amba District of Kinshasa. The agreement was signed by the two companies in Kinshasa City, Kinshasa, Japan.
In the Congolese population, the national average electrification rate is only 20% due to rapid population growth in Kinshasa and underdevelopment resulting from long-standing political instability and past civil wars. Even in electrified areas, planned power outages are frequent, and power supply is limited due to capacity shortages and aging of substation, transmission, and distribution facilities. Therefore, in addition to increasing power generation capacity, the existing substation, transmission, and distribution facilities need to be strengthened and upgraded to ensure a stable power supply.
