In Japan, two stores are currently operating, the Kawauchi store in Futaba-gun, Fukushima Prefecture, and the J-Village store, which opened in 2016 as part of a Great East Japan Earthquake reconstruction NPO project, but this will be the first directly managed store at the LaLa Terrace TOKYO-BAY store.
The directly managed stores will be operated by PTT’s subsidiary PTTOR (PTT Oil and Retail Business Public Company Limited).
In conjunction with the grand opening of Mitsui Shopping Park LaLa Terrace TOKYO- BAY on November 29, we immediately visited Café Amazon LaLa Terrace TOKYO- BAY. The concept of the 34-seat restaurant is “a unique Thai experience and taste not found in existing café culture in Japan.
The coffee beans are carefully selected from coffee farms throughout Thailand and roasted in the company’s own factory.
The signature item on the menu, “Iced Amazon,” is a sweet, cold coffee with condensed milk, a staple in the hot climate of Thailand. It is not harshly sweet, but rather easy to drink with the sweetness of a mocha roll. There are two types to choose from: regular (500 yen) and large (550 yen).
Other products include a simple “Iced Black Coffee” and “Iced Black Coffee Honey Lemon” with honey added.
It is important to note that even though the coffee is “black,” all three of the signature items on the menu are sweet by default. In Thailand, people generally only drink iced coffee, so there is no hot coffee.
Therefore, those who would like to order so-called “black coffee” without sugar should choose from the regular menu, “Americano” or “Cafe Latte” hot or iced as they prefer. In addition, a wide variety of drinks are available, including Thai tea, frappes, milk, and coffee jelly from the custom menu.
In addition, for the opening of “Café Amazon LaLa Terrace TOKYO-BAY,” the company has developed its own menu, the first of its kind to be offered at an overseas store.
For example, the drink “Coconut Matcha Latte” and the winter special “Royal Milk Tea”. Food items include “Kala-Age Avocado Don” with ethnic spices, “Spaghetti Gapao Gai,” an unlikely gapao pasta, and “Spaghetti Gen Khao Gai Yang” with green curry flavor topped with a large grilled chicken.
J.T. International, which operates the popular Thai restaurant “Jai Thai” in Tokyo, has joined as a business partner, and all food items are authentic in taste, yet casual and enjoyable, just like a café.
In addition, there are desserts such as Thai tea soft serve, cheesecake, and Mont Blanc, so it can be used as a place to take a break between shopping or near the station.
