On December 8, the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) signed an agreement with the Asian Development Bank (ADB) to establish the Asian Infrastructure Partnership Trust Fund 2 (LEAP2), a trust fund to support infrastructure development by the private sector in Asia and the Pacific region, with JICA JICA will contribute up to US$1.5 billion to LEAP2, which will be administered by ADB’s Private Sector Operations Department. LEAP has facilitated high-quality infrastructure development by approving a cumulative total of 35 infrastructure projects (as of September 2023), and according to the ADB, demand for infrastructure financing in Asia is expected to rise to $1.7 trillion by 2030. JICA will continue its efforts to promote private sector participation in quality infrastructure projects in Asia and the Pacific region by leveraging its overseas investments and loans to fund LEAP2.
This project will contribute to SDG Goal 7 (Energy for All and Cleaner), Goal 13 (Tackle Climate Change Concretely), and Goal 17 (Achieve the Goals in Partnership) by expanding private sector lending operations for high quality infrastructure projects in Asia and the Pacific region. We will contribute to SDG Goal 7 (Energy for All and Clean), Goal 13 (Take concrete action on climate change), and Goal 17 (Let’s achieve the goals in partnership).
JICA will continue to contribute to the promotion of “quality infrastructure investment” and economic and social development of developing countries and regions in line with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in cooperation with other countries and international organizations.
