Tokyo Metro to Conduct Demonstration Experiment of Displaying Congestion Situation by Car No. On the platform of Aoyama-itchome Station on the Hanzomon Line

Posted on 2023-12-192023-12-19 by Editor in Chief

Tokyo Metro will conduct a demonstration experiment at the platform of Aoyama-itchome Station on the Hanzomon Line (bound for Shibuya) to verify the effect of changing the behavior of passengers by displaying the real-time congestion status of each train car. The period of the experiment will be from mid-December to the end of March 2024.

Depth cameras will be installed at Nagatacho Station, the previous station, to display the real-time measured congestion status of each train car in four levels as “congestion status of the next arriving train” on the display. This allows passengers to check the congestion status of the train they are boarding on the platform in advance, so that they can move to an empty car.

In FY2022, a demonstration experiment conducted at the Waseda Station platform (bound for Nishi Funabashi) on the Tozai Line showed a certain level of behavioral change. In response to this, the current experiment will be conducted at Aoyama 1-chome Station, which has even more users, and the number of displays will be doubled from the previous experiment.
