JAL’s newest Economy Class has a 4K monitor + reclined backrest for comfort on long-haul flights.

On December 13 (local time), JAL and Airbus unveiled the actual A350-1000, JAL’s new international aircraft, in Toulouse, France. The aircraft will enter service on January 24, 2024, on routes from Haneda to New York (JL006/JL005).

The interior of the aircraft will be designed with traditional Japanese beauty in mind, in keeping with the interior of the A350-900 aircraft already in service on domestic routes and the domestic-spec Boeing 787-8 aircraft. All classes of seats have been redesigned, with a total of 239 seats, including 6 first class seats, 54 business class seats, 24 premium economy seats, and 155 economy seats.

Economy Class is a 3-3-3 arrangement, with a seat width of approximately 46 cm and a seat pitch of approximately 84-86 cm. The current concept, which has been recognized by Skytrax as the World’s Best Economy Class, which has been awarded for six consecutive years, will be retained. Seat manufacturing will also continue to be handled by RECARO.

The seats are shaped with the lower part of the seat in front of you gouged out, so there is more room for your knees when you sit down, and the backrest is angled from the beginning in a “pre-reclining” configuration, so it “lies down” about 1 inch more than existing seats. This means that the seat is “reclined” about 1 inch more than the existing seats. As a result, the seats are made so that from the moment one sits down, one feels a sense of space in both the upper and lower body. In addition, by making the armrests thinner, the space around the arms is 2 cm more generous than in the existing model.

The personal monitor is 13 inches with 4K resolution and supports Bluetooth connectivity. Power is provided by a universal power outlet and USB Type-A/C charging port, and the folding table, which is said to be 5 cm larger vertically, makes it easier to use for laptop use and meals.
