Hello, I am Akira Fukasawa, photographer. I have participated in a study tour to “Hanoi and Halong Bay” including World Heritage sites, organized by Vietnam Airlines. This report is from the fourth and final day of the tour. Breakfast on the last day was a buffet at the Vinpearl Halong Bay Resort. It was clean and even the dishes lined up were beautiful.

Departure for the final day’s itinerary Check out of the hotel and take a private cruise back to the land side, then take a bus across the Bai Chai Bridge to the shrine dedicated to Tran Quoc Nghien. Tran Quoc Nghien is the name of a general from the 1200s AD. A small temple was built at the end of the 13th century to remember his achievements, and was declared a historical site in Vietnam in 1993.

Getting to Know Halong Culture at Quang Ninh Museum We visited the Quang Ninh Museum, which has an impressive exterior covered with black glass. The building has an overwhelming presence, like a mysterious black pearl. Since it was a Sunday, many Vietnamese people visited the museum. Entering the museum, we found an exhibition space on the theme of the sea and nature on the first floor, an area for displaying artifacts and artifacts of historical value on the second floor, and a reproduction of the history of coal mining, a symbol of the Quang Ninh ethnic group, on the third floor. There was a model of a coal mine the same size as the mine and statues of workers reproducing their mining methods.

Lunch at Ancient Phong Vi Shua Lunch was served at Ancient Phong Vi Shua, a Vietnamese restaurant operated by the same Vinh Group that owns the hotel. The restaurant has a very quiet atmosphere, and the private room with a folk-style atmosphere was outstanding.

To the Old Quarter of Hanoi Well, this trip is coming to a climax. Unfortunately, it was raining after sunset, but we walked around Hanoi for a bit. It was fun just to walk along the streets lined with clothing stores and alleys lined with shoe shops. The red painted wooden “Phu Qu Bridge” over the Hoan Kiem Lake, which is a place of relaxation for the people of Hanoi, was beautifully illuminated. Although I would have liked to take a more leisurely stroll in downtown Hanoi, I decided to call it a day this time. However, it also gives me an incentive to go back to Hanoi on Vietnam Airlines, so that’s good too. In fact, I had a foot massage afterwards, but I was so tired and comfortable that I fell asleep.

Last Dinner in Hanoi The final dinner of the trip was Vietnamese cuisine at Sen Tonkin restaurant. The interior is a sophisticated space where modernity and tradition are in harmony, and I was happy to end my night in Hanoi with a taste of the spirit of authentic Vietnamese cuisine.

I arrived at Noi Bai International Airport in Hanoi, which was crowded with people as many evening flights were about to depart. After chucking in, I stopped by the Lotus Lounge. This lounge is open not only to Vietnam Airlines and SkyTeam members, but also to top status and business class passengers of many other airlines such as ANA and EVA Air. There is a noodle bar, Vietnamese food, massage chairs, and other amenities to help you relax before your flight. After that, you will board VN310, a Boeing 787-9, for the short 4-hour flight to Tokyo (Narita). Japan is also very close from Hanoi in northern Vietnam.
