Signing of Minutes of Discussion on Technical Cooperation Project for Bangladesh: Contributing to Industrial Diversification by Fostering Support Industries and Strengthening Cooperation and Building Relationships between Local and Foreign Companies | News & Media

The Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) signed a Record of Discussions (R/D) with the Government of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh on December 21 in Dhaka for the technical cooperation project “Industrial Competitiveness Enhancement Project.

Bangladesh’s economic structure is overly dependent on exports of sewn products and remittances of overseas workers. In order to sustain economic growth that supports a higher standard of living for the people, it is necessary to diversify the industry by developing competitive or export-competitive industries for the domestic market, particularly in the manufacturing sector.

In response to this situation, JICA has been supporting the development of business environment, investment promotion, and policies and measures for supporting industries, as well as the development of an operational framework for special economic zones through the “Investment Promotion and Industrial Competitiveness Enhancement Project” (2017 – 2022). This project will further focus on fostering supporting industries and strengthening industrial competitiveness, while utilizing and expanding the results of strengthening the industrial promotion system. In particular, we will strengthen the implementation system for these efforts, focusing on the implementation of policies to enhance industrial competitiveness, industrial human resource development that contributes to strengthening cooperation and building relationships between foreign and local companies, and the matching function. Through these efforts, we will contribute to the enhancement of industrial competitiveness and industrial promotion, and contribute to SDG Goal 8 (both job satisfaction and economic growth) and Goal 9 (create a foundation for industry and technological innovation).
