Weathernews released the “First Cherry Blossom Bloom Forecast.
Spring is expected to arrive early in 2024, with earlier-than-normal blooms forecast for a wide area. The earliest date is March 16 in Fukuoka, followed by Tokyo on March 17, about one week earlier than normal in the Kanto region and northward. After that, blooming will begin in Osaka on March 22, and in other areas in western and eastern Japan from late March onward.
Compared to last year, which was the earliest bloom on record, this year’s predicted cyclical change in weather just prior to bloom is expected to be about the same or later. Particularly in parts of the Pacific side of the country, the blooming is expected to be normal due to the cold winter conditions necessary for the flower buds to bloom.
A second forecast will be released in early February.
