Background and Objectives

Small Island Developing States (SIDS) are considered the most vulnerable countries to the impacts of climate change. Mobilizing climate finance for climate resilience in these countries is critical. This side event discussed the challenges faced by SIDS in accessing climate finance.

Contents

This side event included a discussion of the challenges faced by Small Island Developing States (SIDS) in accessing climate finance. In addition, the need for financial institutions to take into account the vulnerabilities of SIDS and adapt their responses to the current situation in these countries was emphasized, as well as the importance of promoting capacity building in these countries.

JICA emphasized the importance of sustainable development when considering climate finance. He also introduced JICA’s efforts to address the challenges facing SIDS, including capacity building for accessing climate finance through the construction of the Pacific Climate Center and technical cooperation in Samoa, cooperation with the governments of the Maldives and Timor-Leste to develop green climate finance projects, and support in the public and private sectors.
