MOL Sunflower has unveiled the designs of two new LNG-fueled ferries scheduled to enter service on the Metropolitan (Oarai) to Hokkaido (Tomakomai) route in 2025.
With the desire to protect the rich earth and oceans and to brightly illuminate people’s lives and future, they expressed “the sea at dawn” and “light illuminating a new era” with the blue of the sea and sky as accent colors.
LNG fuel can reduce carbon dioxide emissions by about 25% compared to conventional fuel oil, and the company has been operating the LNG-fueled ferry “Sunflower Kurunai-Murasaki” on the Osaka-Beppu route since the spring of 2023.
