Weathernews has released “Pollen Ch.” on its WeatherNews weather app, which allows users to check pollen information for all regions of Japan.
In addition to providing one- and three-hourly dispersal forecasts for each location and real-time dispersal conditions using “Pollen Robo,” a unique IoT pollen monitoring device installed at 1,000 locations in Japan, the service also offers functions such as “hay fever symptoms for everyone” and “pollen allergy check sheets.
In addition, from this season, the new pollen rank, revised in December 2023 by the Japan Pollen Society, will be applied. Pollen information will be released in five levels: low, slightly high, high, very high, and extremely high.
In 2024, the start of pollen dispersal is expected to be earlier due to a mild winter, with cedar pollen dispersal beginning in late January in Tokyo, Chiba, Shizuoka, and Fukuoka. According to a survey conducted by the company on January 18, half of the pollen allergy sufferers in the Kyushu-Tohoku area are already feeling the pollen scattering.
