On January 23, JR East suspended operations on the Tohoku Shinkansen, Hokuriku Shinkansen, and Joetsu Shinkansen due to a power outage. The company states that it is expected to take a considerable amount of time before operations resume.
Operation of the Tohoku Shinkansen is suspended on the upper and lower lines between Tokyo and Sendai Station, the Hokuriku Shinkansen on the upper and lower lines between Tokyo and Nagano Station, and the Joetsu Shinkansen on the upper and lower lines between Tokyo and Echigo-Yuzawa Station.
As a result, the Yamagata Shinkansen Line is operating between Fukushima and Shinjo Station, the Akita Shinkansen Line between Akita and Morioka Station, the Hokuriku Shinkansen Line between Nagano and Kanazawa Station, and the Joetsu Shinkansen Line between Echigo-Yuzawa and Niigata Station, with a turnaround operation in effect.
