Uber Japan announced that it will start supporting the introduction of a new transportation service, “Ridesharing by Taxi Companies,” in April and begin discussions with cab companies nationwide that wish to introduce this service.
Ride-sharing by cab companies” is an initiative aimed at eliminating transportation vacancies and further revitalizing the Japanese economy. The launch of the ride-sharing service will allow cab companies to provide transportation services to each other by utilizing local private cars and drivers in areas, times, and periods when there is a shortage of transportation.
In response, Uber Japan, together with several partner cab companies, will support the introduction of “ride-sharing by cab companies” using the Uber app, which is used in about 70 countries, and expand the service nationwide.
Specific details of the service will be determined in consultation with the partner companies, based on the details of a future notice from the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism.
