Weathernews released the “Second Cherry Blossom Bloom Forecast.
The forecast is for an earlier than normal bloom north of the Kanto region and a normal bloom west of the Tokai region. The earliest bloom is expected in Tokyo on March 20, slightly later than the first forecast of March 17. The forecast remains unchanged, with blooming expected to begin in western and eastern Japan in late March or later, including Osaka on March 25.
Although temperatures are expected to be above normal throughout the country through April, western and eastern Japan are forecast to have many cloudy and rainy days in March, and flowering is expected to be near normal from Kyushu to Tokai. In northern Japan, on the other hand, the cold winter temperatures necessary for the flowering of flower buds and higher-than-normal temperatures in March and April are expected to result in very early flowering, such as March 31 in Sendai.
The third forecast will be released in mid-February.
