Takayama City, Gifu Prefecture, introduced on February 1 a digital version of the “Burari Sansaku Map,” a collection of information on tourist facilities in the central city area, which had been distributed in paper form. There is no charge for use.
The new guidebook is now available anywhere via smartphones and other devices, and GPS makes it easy to find your current location and information on facilities. The illustrations are designed to make strolling around downtown Takayama more enjoyable.
The “Hida Takayama Burari Strolling Map” has been published by the city for more than 40 years, and has been used for distribution to tourists and for promotional purposes, while regularly updating tourist information and other information. In addition to Japanese, 11 foreign languages have been created so that many people can utilize the map.
For the convenience of tourists, a digital version of the Japanese-language map has been introduced. The digital version displays information on approximately 200 spots, including current location, tourist facilities, public restrooms, and parking lots, which is not possible with paper maps, and also provides route guidance to destinations. In addition, by creating a room, a single map can be used by multiple users, allowing them to share their location and travel history with each other and use the chat function. Other features include category search and switching to Google Maps.
