Posted on 2024-03-252024-03-25 by Editor in Chief

The Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) signed the Record of Discussions (R/D) with the Government of the Republic of Tunisia on March 19 in Tunis, the capital of the Republic of Tunisia, on the technical cooperation project “Quality/Productivity Improvement and BDS Promotion Project (Phase 3)”. The project was launched in Tunis, the capital city of Tunisia.

Since micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) account for more than 99% of the total number of enterprises in Tunisia, the government attaches great importance to improving the quality and productivity of micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs). Strengthening the competitiveness of the industry through quality and productivity improvement continues to be a priority issue in the face of rising unemployment due to the Corona disaster and subsequent energy price hikes. This project will train trainers of kaizen(*) at the Ministry of Industry, Mines, and Energy, conduct educational activities and marketing to stimulate demand, and develop plans to strengthen regional development. The project will also implement a trial kaizen training curriculum at vocational training schools, and carry out activities to disseminate kaizen within Tunisia and to African countries.

Through this project, we will establish a system to widely disseminate kaizen and contribute to SDG (Sustainable Development Goals) Goal 8 (both job satisfaction and economic growth) and Goal 9 (let’s create the basis for industrial and technological innovation).

(*)Kaizen: “Kaizen” is an entire knowledge system that utilizes 5S (Seiri, Seiton, Seiso, Seiso, Seiketsu, Shitsuke), 7 QC tools, Total Quality Management (TQM), etc., to help everyone in an organization develop an attitude of constantly pursuing high quality and productivity and implement specific activities that contribute to quality and productivity improvement. It is characterized by the development of company-wide and continuous efforts to improve corporate competitiveness by reforming the way of thinking of management and employees, fostering teamwork, and promoting communication.
