Although more and more people are using SNS to gather information about their travel destinations, even in this day and age, we are still interested in the recommendations of local people. In this section, we ask people who work at lodging facilities throughout Japan to introduce points of interest at the lodging facilities where they work and their favorite sightseeing spots in the surrounding area.
For this interview, we spoke with Shirakaba Resort Ikenodaira Hotel (Ikenodaira Hotel & Resorts), where we spoke with Mr. Laugh Fujimori of the room food and beverage cooking department.
Name: Shirakaba Resort Ikenodaira Hotel
Location: 1596 Ashida Yakeno, Tateshina-cho, Kitasaku-gun, Nagano, Japan
–Please give us an overview of the facility.
This hotel is located on the shores of Lake Shirakaba in Nagano Prefecture. We have a natural hot spring and sauna that boasts a view and soft “water,” and we serve buffet meals using seasonal, local ingredients. We offer various types of rooms for families, couples, and friends to relax. Amusement parks, museums, campgrounds, and ski resorts are located nearby.
–What are some of the highlights or experiences that you would like to see or experience that you can’t find anywhere else?
With a wide variety of facilities, you can choose how to spend your stay according to your mood and the situation at the time. We are confident that everyone will be able to enjoy their stay to their heart’s content: amusement parks and animal encounters for children, trekking and mountain climbing for those who love the outdoors, and hot springs and saunas for those who come to relax after a hard day’s work.
–What are your personal recommendations for nearby attractions?
Lake Shirakaba is blessed with tranquil nature and is a scenic spot where you can enjoy completely different scenery in each of the four seasons. The lakeside is 3.8 km in circumference, just the right distance for a stroll, and you can take wonderful pictures while enjoying the clean air. In Suwa City, one of the oldest shrines in Japan, Suwa Taisha Shrine is located a short distance away. If you like visiting shrines, this is a must.
–Finally, any last words for our readers?
From the hot springs, restaurants, and some guest rooms, you can see Lake Shirakaba and the mountain wave of Kurumayama. The view is completely different depending on the season, and even during the day it changes from moment to moment, adding color to your trip. It is a view like no other, and we hope you will enjoy it as much as we do.
