On April 22, ANA X announced its “TaaS (Travel as a Service) platform” concept, which allows travelers to complete travel search, booking, and payment through a single smartphone application.
In general, travelers search for and gather information on destinations, make reservations for airline tickets, hotels, activities, and car rentals, and make payments for those reservations separately. For example, in the case of a common situation such as “I want to change my airline ticket seat,” “I want to check the hotel check-in time,” or “I want to check my rental car reservation number,” the user must log in to the individual service where the reservation was made or read the e-mail again.
In contrast, under the TaaS platform concept, the ability to consolidate search, reservation, payment, and management will bring many advantages, including the ability to consolidate information, improve itinerary listing, eliminate complications related to login, and eliminate mistakes such as “I made a rental car reservation only on the wrong date. The concept will also allow all reservations to be made at the same time. In addition, all reservations made under this plan will be eligible to earn and use ANA miles.
As the first step of the platform concept, the “Domestic Accommodation Reservation Service” was launched on March 26, and cooperation with agoda and Jalan (Recruit) was started. The number of facilities handled has been expanded from approximately 3,000 to approximately 12,000, with a particular increase in the number of destinations, especially those that have not yet been served and hot spring resorts, which have been weak spots in the past.
The platform is scheduled to be completed in FY2026, and will be implemented in FY2024 to “link along the itinerary after airline ticket reservation,” “centralize reservation management including airline tickets,” “create itinerary from reservation,” “start domestic car rental reservation,” etc. Toward completion, the system will also include functions for domestic activity/golf and overseas hotel/rental car reservations.
Mr. Masahiro Morita, General Manager of the Travel Business Promotion Department, explained the concept, “From now on, travelers will be increasingly making their own arrangements. We want to remove this hassle with the TaaS platform. We want to make it possible to handle everything seamlessly.
