JR East announced on May 8 that it will begin improvement work inside and outside the Tokyo Station B1 and 1st floor ticket gates (around the South Passage), including the construction of the new South East-West Free Passageway, which began in March 2022 and is scheduled to be completed in the winter of 2031.
Around the South Passage, the “TOKYO STATION CITY” large-scale facility development project, which has been underway since 2002, will mark a milestone with improvements to the walkways inside the ticket gates, enhanced barrier-free features, a new waiting plaza, and an expanded retail area.
In conjunction with this construction, stores around the south corridor will close in stages. Ecute Tokyo will close its stores in phases (operations will end around August).
