Naoki Wakabayashi’s Travel Photo Gallery] Ashikaga Flower Park (Tochigi Prefecture)

Posted on 2024-05-312024-07-06 by Editor in Chief

Ashikaga Flower Park opened in 1968 as “Hayakawa Farm” and was moved to its current location in 1997. Many people may know it from the news every spring, as the “250 tatami mats of giant wisteria” bloom in spectacular profusion.

The vast 100,000 m2 area is planted with numerous flowers, and after the wisteria has finished blooming, 2,500 roses of 500 varieties are in full bloom. The garden is richly varied, with a theme for each season that will delight visitors no matter how many times they visit.

I was surprised to find very few dead flowers as I strolled through the park. The garden is always kept beautiful because the garden’s caretakers carefully remove wilted flowers and weeds on a daily basis.

The park is accessible by car from the Sano Fujioka IC of the Tohoku Expressway or the Sano Tanuma IC or Ashikaga IC of the Kita Kanto Expressway in 20 minutes. By train, Ashikaga Flower Park Station on the Ryomo Line is located right in front of the park, making access very easy.

You can find information about the flowers in bloom on the website, so it is a good idea to check before you go. There is also a booklet introducing the flowers in the park, so why not spend a relaxing day while looking at it?
