At Atami Seaside Spa & Resort, an all-you-can-eat hot spring resort with ocean views, you can enjoy all-you-can-eat seafood rice bowls, grilled seafood, and even crab! A gourmet trip to the beautiful scenery of early summer, including a day trip to “Lemon Island”!

Hakone Town in Kanagawa Prefecture and Atami City in Shizuoka Prefecture, which straddle two prefectures, are located within 20 to 30 minutes’ drive of each other, making it easy to combine them for sightseeing.

In this issue, we introduce “Hakone Tokoku Touge” where you can enjoy a panoramic view of Mt. Fuji and Suruga Bay, “Atami Seaside Spa & Resort,” a hot spring resort where all rooms have ocean views, and “Hatsushima,” a secluded resort where you can take a day trip from the Atami Port.

I participated in a press tour organized by Fujikyukyo and went on a superb trip around the Hakone and Atami areas in early summer.

In April 2023, the glamping facility “THE GLAMPING Hakone Tokoku Touge” opened in a remote mountain-top location, and is popular for its authentic Finnish sauna, BBQ while enjoying the spectacular view, and bonfires at night. A total of 14 trailer houses of 7 different types offer a “glamping experience with a view of the sky”.

The name “Tokoku Touge” comes from the fact that the mountain overlooks the “Ten Provinces” (Izu, Suruga, Omi, Kai, Shinano, Sagami, Musashi, Jousa, Shimousa, and Awa), which were the names of the provinces in the olden days. The observation deck at the top of the mountain is a popular photo spot with a large “Tokoku Touge” sign. The TENGOKU CAFE, also located on the deck, offers gourmet foods such as churros (500 yen) and 1059 Mont Blanc (1000 yen each, two types: Shizuoka tea and marron).

Drive-in at Hakone Tokoku Pass with a panoramic view of Mount Fuji and Suruga Bay! A snack of “Touge Churros” is just right!

Stay at Atami Seaside Spa & Resort, a hot spring resort where all rooms have ocean views. All-you-can-eat seafood for dinner

That evening we stayed at Atami Seaside Spa & Resort (6-53 Tokaigancho, Atami, Shizuoka Prefecture), a 10-minute walk from JR Atami Station, a hot spring resort with ocean views in every room.

Atami is famous for the Atami Marine Fireworks Festival, which is held more than 10 times a year, not only in summer but also throughout the year.

The inn is located right in front of Atami Sun Beach, the main venue for the event, so you can enjoy the realistic feeling of the event from the comfort of your room. Of course, during the day when you check in or the next morning, you can see the ocean view in front of you all the way to Hatsushima Island.

A total of 78 guest rooms located on the 5th to 7th floors offer a variety of room types, including suites with open-air baths, family rooms suitable for group trips or stays with children, and newly established women-only cabin rooms for women traveling alone.

Of particular note is the all-you-can-eat seafood dinner buffet. Sashimi includes tuna, sea bream, and sunfish, depending on the season. The self-serve hamayaki corner offers turban shells, clams, shrimps, and scallops grilled on the beach.

In addition, you can eat as much snow crab as you like. The menu also includes roast pork, oven-baked pizza, and about 80 other dishes from the Japanese, Western, and Chinese menus, all made with local Izu ingredients.

In the morning, in addition to the standard menu items such as fresh vegetable salad and scrambled eggs, there is also dried fish that you can grill yourself, Shizuoka oden, a local delicacy, and kaisen donburi, a bowl of rice topped with seafood of your choice.

Of course, the large public baths and outdoor hot spring baths are natural hot spring baths with free-flowing hot spring water. The men’s bath has a sauna with auto-laulu and the women’s bath has a steam sauna. In addition, you can refresh yourself in the bedrock bath (1,540 yen for 90 minutes) or in a private open-air bath with a view of the ocean (3,300 yen for 45 minutes).

Room rates range from 11,000 yen for the Standard Plan with 1 night and breakfast (per person based on double occupancy) and from 16,170 yen for the All-you-can-drink Dinner Plan with 1 night and evening breakfast (per person based on double occupancy).

The quietness of the night and the sound of the waves, zazar, zazar ……, were soothing as I slowly drifted off to sleep.
