On June 18, JICA President Akihiko Tanaka met with Kamal Kishore, Special Representative of the United Nations Secretary-General for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNDRR), at JICA Headquarters.
At the beginning of the meeting, President Tanaka congratulated Special Representative Kishore on his appointment and thanked him for his long cooperation with JICA during his previous position as Director General of the National Disaster Management Authority of India.
In response, Special Representative Kishore expressed his pleasure at being able to visit Japan immediately after his inauguration, and his appreciation and expectations for JICA’s efforts to implement the Sendai Framework for Disaster Reduction.
They exchanged views on the importance of the “Early Warnings for All” initiative led by the UN Secretary-General, how disaster reduction cooperation should be provided to small island developing countries and landlocked countries, and the involvement of the private sector in disaster reduction.
