Korean Air resumed its Narita-Jeju route on July 19 with three flights a week, the first time in four and a half years since the service was suspended in November 2019, and held a commemorative event at Narita Airport Terminal 1 on that day.
Korean Air’s Narita – Jeju route schedule (July 19 – October 26, 2024)
KE2126: Departs Narita (16:35) – Jeju (19:25), operated on Wed, Fri, Sun
KE2125: Jeju (13:05) to Narita (15:35), operated on Wednesday, Friday and Sunday
The aircraft is a Boeing 737-900ER with 8 business class seats and 165 economy class seats, for a total of 173 seats.
Jeju Island, located at the southernmost tip of South Korea, is known for its rich nature, mild climate, and local delicacies such as black pigs and seafood, making it a resort island with a different appeal from Seoul and Busan. The island is also known as the “Hawaii of Korea,” with fashionable cafes lining the seaside.
Until now, connecting domestic flights from Japan to Jeju Island were required, but with the resumption of flights to Jeju Island, passengers will be able to fly directly to the island. The flight between Narita and Jeju takes approximately 2 hours and 30 minutes, and one hot meal and pure water from Jeju will be provided.
At the commemorative event, Mr. Seog Lee, General Manager of Korean Air’s Japan Region, took the stage and said, “This is the only direct flight between Tokyo and Jeju, so the resumption of this service is very meaningful. Before the suspension, the route had six flights a week, and the ratio of Japanese to Korean passengers was 8:2. We would like to revitalize the Jeju route, which is the third largest city in South Korea after Seoul and Busan,” he said.
Akane Onuki, Director of the Tokyo Public Relations and Tourism Office of Jeju Special Self-Governing Province, who also participated as a guest of honor, said, “Jeju is rich in nature, with emerald green beaches, huge World Heritage rock mountains, and lava tubes, as well as fresh seafood from the surrounding sea and local gourmet foods such as Jeju-raised black pig. I hope everyone will enjoy the various attractions of Jeju.
In front of boarding gate 22 of Terminal 1, a panel featuring a stone statue of Jeju’s guardian god, “Dolhareubang,” a popular local photo spot, was also displayed. Passengers of KE2126, the first flight to reopen, were given post-its with original Korean Air designs as souvenirs. The flight was almost full with families and elderly couples, and departed for Jeju Island at the end of the rainy season.
