Enjoying a delicious meal at a lovely auberge where you can only imagine that you are in the south of France My husband and I got into my car and proceeded to leave. The weather was forecast to break in the evening, so we planned to arrive in time for dinner and go swimming the next day. We were a little worried about the weather, but it was a good decision to choose a nice lodging this time because we could enjoy the meals and lodging at an auberge even in bad weather. After a two-hour drive from Tokyo, we arrived at the Auberge “Osterlee Avançois. From the entrance, the atmosphere was so southern French that I almost forgot for a moment that I was in Chiba. At the reception desk, a cute little dog greeted us. After checking in and heading to our room, we were knocked out by the overly cute interior! I had been to Europe with my husband, and I felt like I was in France again. There is a white bath with Jacuzzi, and everything is so cute. The facilities are perfect, with a hair dryer and a refrigerator in the room. After a short rest in the room, it was already time for dinner.
French cuisine using local ingredients and the owner’s carefully selected wines. We first ordered an aperitif in the dining room with its bright orange cloth. Considering the possibility that we might go out by car, my husband had a non-alcoholic drink first, and I had a sparkling wine of French Chardonnay. The wine list ranged from reasonably priced to expensive wines, which showed the owner’s love of wine. We started with an amuse (appetizer) of herbed cream cheese and thinly sliced baguette. The fresh aroma of the herbs and sparkling wine went well together. Next, the soup is a cold gazpacho (tomato soup) with Daruma squid. Why is gazpacho so delicious in the hot summer? The fresh sweetness of the tomatoes also sinks into your tired body. At this time, two kinds of bread, petit francs and campagne, appeared on the menu. They are also fluffy and extremely delicious! The gazpacho was nicely slathered. The first fish dish was abalone in coraille sauce with lobster and summer vegetables. The coraille sauce with liver on the tender cooked abalone was refreshing & the slight bitterness tickled my tongue and nose. The sweetness of the corn and the lobster sauce complemented each other like a midsummer night’s dream. The lobster meat was also delicious and tender. The second dish was poached sea bream with mustard sauce. The tangy and slightly acidic mustard and the crunchy sea bream were a delight to the palate. Here, a lemon sherbet was served to refresh the palate. The lemon zest is also used, giving it a slightly bitter, adult taste. Since it was almost time for the meat dish, we ordered a glass of red wine at this point. It is an easy-drinking Pinot Noir from Burgundy, but it has a robust taste. The first meat dish was beef tongue stewed in white wine. The beef tongue was cooked so tenderly that it melted in my mouth. It was hard to tell whether it was my tongue or the cow’s tongue that melted together. The second dish was roasted lamb with Madeira sauce. The sweet and sour sauce made with Madeira wine was perfect for the fatty lamb. The roasted condition was exquisite, and the lamb was juicy yet firm and chewy, allowing us to enjoy the flavor of the lamb. Even though we had a full course, we still wanted something sweet, so we finished off the meal with their famous cheesecake, tea ice cream, and assorted chocolate mousses. I enjoyed the French course and slept soundly thanks to a bubble bath in the Jacuzzi at night. Breakfast the next morning started with strawberries, yogurt, and raspberry juice, followed by a Lyon-style salad with prosciutto and poached eggs, and a risotto with clams and mussels, which was insanely gorgeous in the morning! The gentle flavors of these dishes made it possible to eat well even in the morning. Finally, rosemary ice cream and an espresso were a great start to the day.
