Pokémon Inc. and Okinawa Prefecture signed a partnership agreement on August 1, appointing “Gardy,” which appears in the Pokémon series, as the “Okinawa Support Pokémon.
Aiming to enhance the brand power of the prefecture by communicating its attractions and increasing its name recognition, initiatives related to tourism, onward motions of prefectural products, and sports promotion will be implemented.
Wrapping of the Gardy design will run sequentially from August. Okinawa Bus, Naha Bus, Ryukyu Bus, and Toyo Bus will run with different designs based on the colors of each company.
Yui Rail has also been operating a girly-design wrapped train since August. The design features gerdies dancing and playing around against a background inspired by the traditional Okinawan craft of Bingata.
In addition, with the aim of “restoring prefectural products,” the company will be releasing collaborative products between prefectural products and Gardy. The first product lineup includes Kariyushi wear and confectionery.
