Amazon (Amazon Japan) has announced that it will begin using air transport to Hokkaido, expanding next-day delivery to the prefecture. This means that next-day delivery of more than 7 million products available on Amazon.co.jp is now available in all 47 prefectures.
Previously, deliveries to Hokkaido were made by truck and ferry, which took several days, but by using air transportation, next-day delivery is now possible for the first time in Hokkaido. By utilizing the empty space on passenger planes operating from Haneda Airport to New Chitose Airport, the company plans to deliver several hundred thousand items per month.
Within Hokkaido, excluding remote islands, orders placed by noon the day before can be delivered the next day. In some areas of Hokkaido, such as Sapporo, Asahikawa, Hakodate, and Obihiro, approximately 200,000 items can be delivered on the same day.
