Himeji City will hold a special open house at Himeji Castle (68 Honmachi, Himeji City, Hyogo Prefecture) from September 1 to 30. The admission fee is 200 yen, and admission to Himeji Castle (1,000 yen for adults and 300 yen for children) is required separately.
The area open to the public this time is the area around the “Karame” (castle gate), which is located on the east side of Himeji Castle and is considered to be highly defensive due to its topography and castle structure.
The “Four Gates of Toto,” where a storehouse was built inside the gate and where gunpowder was kept, will be open to the public for the first time in nine years.
In addition, there are many other devices designed to prepare for battle, such as “To no Yagura,” which can be shot through two lattice windows, “To no Ichimon,” the only existing turret gate in Himeji Castle that is not plastered white, and “Masugata Toraguchi,” which consists of a castle gate and an earthen dugout.
The reception desk will be open from 9:00 to 16:30 at the Ikuo Yagura. Admission is 200 yen per person.
