IHG Hotels & Resorts operates 19 hotel brands with more than 6,300 hotels in over 100 countries. In Japan, IHG Hotels & Resorts currently operates approximately 47 hotels under seven brands from Hokkaido to Okinawa (as of March 2024). For this interview, we asked Hideyuki Saneju, general manager of the ANA Crowne Plaza Hotel Yonago, about the hotel’s surrounding area.
Name: ANA Crowne Plaza Hotel Yonago
Location: 53-2 Kume-cho, Yonago City, Tottori Prefecture
–How did you come to work at the ANA Crowne Plaza Hotel Yonago?
I went to Korea on a school excursion and saw a tour conductor there who was a very enjoyable guide, and I knew I wanted to work in the travel industry someday. After graduating from university, I went to Australia to study, and when my parents came to Australia, my mother became sick with a fever and I explained the situation to the front desk clerk at the hotel in English that I had just learned. Despite my poor English, the front desk clerk understood the situation and gave me a plastic bag with ice and a towel to keep my mother cool. From these experiences, I decided to work in the hotel industry because I wanted to work in a job where I could be there for people in need and make them smile.
–What kind of hotel is it?
The ANA Crowne Plaza Hotel Yonago is conveniently located in the center of the San’in region, making it a good base for sightseeing and business. It has one of the largest banquet halls in Yonago City and is used by many guests for national conventions and academic conferences. Each and every one of our staff members is committed to hospitality, and we strive to be flexible to meet the needs of our guests.
–What is the unique experience of the ANA Crowne Plaza Hotel Yonago?
The guest rooms are equipped with Crowne Plaza’s original “Sleep Advantage” program for a good night’s sleep. The luxurious pillow-top mattresses are made by Slumberland, a company with a long history of royal patronage in the U.K. The pillow-top mattresses gently envelop the body, providing a more elegant sleeping experience.
–please let me know if you have any personal favorites tourist spots or restaurants in the vicinity of the hotel.
Yonago Castle Ruins near our hotel was selected as the strongest castle in NHK’s special program “Japan’s Strongest Castle Special No. 10 – Castles with the Most Beautiful Views You Must Visit Once”. It takes about 15 minutes to walk up to the castle keep, so it is recommended as a casual walking course.
–What restaurant menu do you recommend?
This is the Yonago Castle Otemon Kaiseki at the Unkai Japanese Restaurant. Otemon Gate was the main gate connecting Yonago Castle and the castle grounds, and our current hotel is located at the former Otemon Gate.
–What souvenirs do you recommend?
The hotel patissier’s special pound cakes in our online store are very popular. The Earl Grey Pound Cake is especially popular, with a rich aroma of black tea and a full flavor due to the almond and hazelnut pudding in the batter. If you make a reservation in advance, you can pick one up at the front desk for a souvenir.
