The commercial facility “Nakaza Kuidaore Building” (1-7-21 Dotonbori, Chuo-ku, Osaka) has been undergoing renovation work since June 1 in preparation for a complete renewal in spring 2025.
Located in Dotonbori, Osaka, this amusement building has six stories above ground and one below. The building was once known as “Naka-za,” one of the five theaters of Dotonbori, and was crowded with many plays and Kabuki performances.
Since then, the building has undergone redevelopment, borrowing the name of the restaurant “Kuidaore,” which closed in 2009, and Osaka’s mascot “Kuidaore Taro” has also been relocated to the building. In reference to the legend of Shibamon Raccoon, a 1-meter tall “Dotonbori no Otanuki-sama” is also on display next to the entrance.
The renewal aims to create an “entertainment space that enhances the emotional and experiential value of Dotonbori” by adding restaurants and stores that revitalize the local community, while inheriting the history and culture of the area, including the Nakaza and Kuidaore.
