JR Tokai and JR West will operate the Tokaido and Sanyo Shinkansen Nozomi bullet trains (between Tokyo and Hakata) with “all reserved seats (no nonreserved seats)” during the year-end and New Year holidays of fiscal 2024. The new service period is from December 27 to January 5, 2025.
By eliminating the non-reserved seats normally provided in cars 1-3, the number of reserved seats in ordinary cars will increase by approximately 30% per train, allowing more passengers to make reservations and be seated, and to travel without having to wait long hours at platforms and other locations. As a result, passengers will be required to reserve or purchase a reserved seat when boarding the Nozomi during the applicable period.
As in the past, the “Nozomi 12 Train Timetable” will be used between Tokyo and Shin-Osaka, and more trains will directly connect to the Tokaido and Sanyo Shinkansen lines. The “EX Service” allows passengers to reserve reserved seats up to one year in advance, and passengers can also make reservations and purchase seats during the Bon Festival in advance.
In addition, “Hikari,” “Kodama,” “Mizuho,” and “Sakura” trains other than “Nozomi” will have unreserved seats as usual.
