JR Tokai conducts QR code ticket experiment on the Chuo Main Line. Limited Express Shinano + local bus “Magome Round Trip Ticket” are covered.

JR Tokai, Nagoya Railroad, and Kita Ena Kotsu will conduct a QR code ticket experiment on JR Tokai’s Chuo Main Line. The period is from September 20 to December 8.

Automatic ticket gates with QR code-reading cameras will be installed at Nagoya (Central and Sakuradori Exits), Tajimi, and Nakatsugawa stations for the “Magome Round Trip Ticket,” a special ticket sold via Meitetsu’s CentX MaaS application. The practicality and effectiveness of the digital train service, in which regional transportation and urban transportation are linked, will be verified, as well as QR code authentication and interlocking with the ticket gate machines.

The “Magome Round Trip Ticket” is a combination of a round-trip ticket for the limited express train “Shinano” between Tajimi/Nagoya and Nakatsugawa stations on the JR Chuo Line and a one-day ticket for the Magome Line (local bus) operated by Kita Ena Kotsu. The “Shinano” is available only for nonreserved seats in ordinary cars, and no stopovers are allowed; passengers can use the ticket by holding the code over the dedicated ticket gate when entering or exiting the JR line, or by presenting the ticket screen to the train crew at Kita Ena Kotsu.

Prices are 3,000 yen for travel to/from Tajimi Station and 5,000 yen for travel to/from Nagoya Station (adults only). The ticket is valid for 60 days (until December 8) from the date of purchase, but it is valid only on the day of purchase, after which it must be used by pressing the start button on both the JR outbound and inbound routes and on Kita Ena Kotsu.
