This seminar was held to learn how to measure and visualize forests and biodiversity to realize a nature-positive society, such as implementing credit projects and responding to the TNFD, and to obtain hints on how to know and utilize related technologies and services.
Contents
This seminar featured speakers from private companies that provide technologies and services related to the measurement and visualization of forests and biodiversity using remote sensing, big data, and other technologies.
At the beginning of the seminar, Mr. Endo of the Remote Sensing Technology Center of Japan (RESTEC) introduced the types of remote sensing technologies in the forestry field and their advantages and disadvantages (Presentation Material ).
As for the private companies’ efforts in the forestry field, Mr. Wachi of Synspective introduced forest harvest monitoring and biomass measurement using SAR (Synthetic Aperture Radar) satellites (Presentation Material ). Mr. Kirioka of DeepForest Technologies, Inc. introduced forest analysis using drones (Presentation Material ).
As for efforts in the biodiversity field, Mr. Matsui of Think Nature, Inc. introduced Nature Positive and TNFD services that utilize biodiversity big data and AI (presentation materials not disclosed).
In a panel discussion held in the latter half of the seminar, participants exchanged opinions on the strengths and weaknesses of the services and technologies provided by private companies and their future prospects, including overseas expansion (Panel Discussion Overview ).
This seminar was attended by more than 200 members of the “Platform to Change the World from Forests”, mainly from private companies and public organizations interested in carbon credit projects and TNFD compliance.
