Osaka Metro (Osaka Municipal Rapid Transit), Kinki Nippon Railway, Hankyu Corporation, and Hanshin Electric Railway will introduce “stera transit” provided by Sumitomo Mitsui Card at 548 stations in the Kansai and Tokai areas from October 29.
At participating stations, passengers can board the train using a credit card for touch payment or a smartphone with a compatible card set. The system is also compatible with direct crossings between different railway operators.
This allows tourists from overseas and those who do not have IC cards to board smoothly without having to purchase a ticket from a ticket vending machine.
Sumitomo Mitsui Card aims to expand the use of touch-settled rides in the Kansai area in preparation for the Osaka-Kansai Expo, which will open in the spring of 2025.
