Jose’s Mexican Cafe and Cantina One of the oldest Mexican restaurants in Hawaii is located in Kaimuki. Opened in 1973 by the Martinez family, it is a great place to enjoy Mexican food based on their family recipe. Each restaurant has a different flavor of homemade salsa sauce that is served with tortilla chips, so it is a pleasure to compare the different flavors. This restaurant had a rich tomato flavor. A distinctive and must-try menu item is the enchilada plate ($22.95, $19.95 for individual items), which is wrapped with real crab meat. Enjoy the flavor of the generously stuffed snow crab with ranchera sauce (a type of salsa sauce), melted cheese, and sour cream. Burritos are another unique item on the menu. The Burrito Ranchero ($20.95) is a tortilla filled with beef stew. The best match is the melted cheese, ranchera sauce, and sour cream.
