I am in Phu Quoc on an inspection tour organized by Vietnam Airlines. After flying from Narita to Ho Chi Minh City and connecting to a domestic flight, I arrived in Phu Quoc and checked in at La Festa Phu Quoc Curio Collection by Hilton. I checked in at La Festa Phu Quoc Curio Collection by Hilton and immediately went outside. The sun had set and dusk was falling. The streets are stylish and photogenic. It would be nice to forget the time by looking at the sea. There was a dog approaching. It was a Phu Quoc dog. It did not have a collar. It is said to be a rather small and very smart dog, and can be seen here and there on the island. However, you are not allowed to pet or touch the dog. At the very least, just take a picture. We went to VUI-Fest Bazaar Phu Quoc, a seaside night market with a variety of Vietnamese-style stalls selling fruits, skewers, and other items. The Giong Bar, located in the center of the market, is the place to have dinner. You can enjoy sophisticated Vietnamese cuisine. Unfortunately, it was dark outside and we could not see the sea, but we enjoyed the delicious food with a refreshing breeze from the sea. Right around 7:30 p.m., the “Roang San Show” began on the stage in front of the Gion Bar. The cooks performed a rhythmical dance with pots and pans and other cooking utensils. The dance performance, a combination of music and street circus, was a real crowd pleaser.
Vietnamese Water Puppet Theater at A OI Theater After a leisurely dinner, we went to A OI Theater to watch a Vietnamese water puppet show. The name “A OI” comes from a part of the lyrics of a lullaby. The stage is seen from the curved bleachers, which are inspired by the terraced rice paddies of Vietnam. The audience enjoys the collaboration between the puppets on the water in the foreground and the dancers on stage. The puppets and dragons on the water are controlled by puppeteers behind the curtain using sticks. After the performance, visitors can actually try their hand at moving the dragons with a stick, which is a great experience. On the way back to the hotel, there is a series of photogenic scenes, which I couldn’t help but point my lens at. When we returned to our hotel room, we were able to watch the fireworks from the balcony. Now, let’s get a good night’s sleep in preparation for the next day.
The World’s Longest Ropeway to the Water Park “AQUATOPIA” Can you imagine a ropeway that is approximately 8 km long? I rode the world’s longest ropeway, “Sun World Hon Thom,” which crosses from the southern part of Phu Quoc Island to Hon Thom Island. The ropeway is 7899.9 meters long and relatively stable thanks to the latest technology using three wires. It takes about 15 minutes each way. The tallest pole is 174 meters, which is unexpectedly high. It would be a spectacular view if you ride it under a clear blue sky during the high season from December to March. The ropeway ticket also includes admission to AQUATOPIA, a water park on Koh Hong Thom. Please note that the ropeway may not be in operation during certain times of the year, so please check the operation schedule in advance.
